Getting Started

Welcome to Getting Started

Installing Team Trader Pro

Bring up a browser (preferably internet explorer because you can save and then run in the same dialog) and goto http://www.teamtraderpro.com/media/g/phicubedownloads/default.aspx. Click on the English or Portuguese version of the program and click on download. Download and install Team Trader Pro.

Installing Your Data Feed

If you are in the US and using real time data, you need to download and install the eSignal Datamanger. You will need an id and password for eSignal which you will get after you sign up from your administrator.

If you are in Brasil and using real time data, you will need to download and install the Trade Zone TZDataCenter. You will need an id and password for the TZDataCenter which you will get after you sign up from your administrator.

If you are going to use daily charts only from Yahoo, proceed to the next step.

Logging on for the First Time

Double click the program icon on your desktop after installation. After the program opens, you will get a dialog asking for your username and password.

Enter in the username and password that you use for the community web site and click Logon. If you forgot your password click here http://www.teamtraderpro.com/user/EmailForgottenPassword.aspx.

Next you will get a window letting you setup your default workspace. A workspace is a file that defines how all the windows are laid out when a workspace is loaded.

Use the right and left arrows to choose how many charts you want in your initial workspace and if you want a watchlist of symbols with it. If your initial workspace isn't what you want it is easy to change later . Once you have displayed the workspace you want, click on the picture and the program will setup with your choice.

Now the program should come fully up and you should see something like below (This is a one chart one watchlist workspace).

How to Get Operational

Changing a Symbol - Just click in the chart you want to change and then type in the symbol and press enter. There is a symbol entry box in the upper left of the menu but you don’t have to use it. Whatever chart window was last clicked becomes the active window and all top menu item will apply to it.

Changing Time Span - Click the main menu at the top and select the "Chart" Tab and then click on the timespan button you want in the timespan potion of the menu ribbon.

Right Click Menus - This is the secret to running the program!! Right click menus are everywhere. Right click in the chart, right click in the watchlist, right click in the menu, right click on the titles in the chart, right click on a chart bar, right click on a study line, right click in the chat window.

The Main Menu - The main menu is at the top and can used for most functions. When the program opens the main menu ribbon may or may not be open. You can open and close the ribbon by right clicking in the menu and toggling Minimize ribbon off and on.

The Menu Circle

The other area of importance in term of the menu is the "Menu Circle" in the left of the program. This contains a number of options for running the program.

If you click on the "Menu Circle", then "Workspaces", then "Save Workspace" you can now save your current workspace as the default workspace. If you use "Save Workspace As" you can give it a unique name so you can call it up later. From here on I will refer to a menu selections as follows: "Menu Circle" ==> "Workspaces" ==> "Save Workspace".

Customizing the Chart

The initial chart will have a default set of studies which will have been defined by the team administrator in "Menu Circle" ==> "Preferences". You can change these by Selecting "Menu Circle" ==> "Preferences" ==> "Default Chart", then change any values in the property window on the right, and then click save.

The "Main Menu" ==> "Chart" menu has the standard Chart options. Menu selections will apply to the chart you last clicking the mouse in. If you Hold the shift key down while clicking a menu button it will apply to all chart windows.

Chart Type - Choose "Candle Stick", "High Low Close Bar", "Line", or "Fill" to display how you want your chart to plot stock prices.

Zoom In/Out - This will zoom the chart in and out.

Log - Select this to toggle between the chart using a log scale or not.

Refresh Chart - This will re request the same chart data from the data provider, this is useful to get rid of bad ticks that have since been corrected in the history of the data provider.

Extended Trading - This will show before and after hours trading in the stock.

Adding Studies

Clear All Studies - You can clear the chart of all predefined studies by selecting "Main Menu" ==> "Studies" ==> "Clear All Studies" or by "Chart Right Click" ==> "Clear All Studies".

Add a Study - You can add a study to the chart by selecting a study from the pull down from "Main Menu" ==> "Studies" ==> click on the "Studies" pull down menu or "Chart Right Click" ==> "Studies" ==> select the study you want to add. The study will be added to the chart. You can change the values, if allowed, of the study by clicking the box in the study title and changing the value and pressing enter.

You can also right click on the study title for a menu of options on the study like adding a study on a study i.e. you might want an exponential moving average on an on balance volume line.

You have the following choices:

Signals - If you choose one of the options under this menu you can show the buy and sell points of the current study as color bars, chart background color, arrows on the chart, or dots on the charts.

Study Modifier - This is where you add another study to the study line name under the mouse cursor. For example if you have Bollinger bands up you can add an EMA to the top line only by right clicking on the line name in the study title.

Line Properties - You can change the color, width, style, and transparency of the chart line under the mouse cursor when you opened the right click menu.

Delete Line - This will delete the chart line under the mouse cursor without deleting the whole study. For example, you could delete the middle line of the Bollinger bands without deleting the study.

Delete Study - This will delete the entire study under the mouse cursor from the chart, if it is in its own window panel the panel will be deleted also.

Optimize Study - This will load the optimizer and set it up with the study under the mouse cursor.

Add Alert - This will add an alert from the study under the mouse cursor. The alert buy or sell will be automatically set to alarm when the study changes from its current value. See "How to use Alerts".

Add Value to Scale - This will toggle on/off the display of the value of the chart line in the y axis for the chart.

Copy Study to Chat - If you have created your won study that you want to share with others you can right click and have a link appear in the current chat channel. If anyone else clicks on the link it will load the study into their program.

Copy Study for Forum or Blog - This will copy the study to the clipboard which can be pasted into a forum or blog. If anyone clicks on the link while in the program it will load the study into the program.

Add Study to Program - If you are looking at a shared chart from someone else and it has a study that you don’t have, you can right click and add the study to your program.

Moving Items Around on the Chart

Change the Order of Study Panels - Click in the clear area of the study panel and hold the left mouse button down, then move the panel up and down to change its position in the chart. Release the left mouse button when the panel is where you want it.

Combine Study Panels - If you want to combine the studies in two difference panels. Click on the study title and hold the left mouse button down, then move the title into the panel you want to combine it with. If you want to separate a study from a combined panel, click on the study title and hold the left mouse button down, then move the mouse over the top or below the bottom of the chart.

Shift the Chart - There are two sliders bars, one at the top of the chart and one on the right of the chart. Hold the left mouse button down over the arrow in the slider and move the arrow to see prior history or change the scaling of the chart.

Saving and Opening Templates

Whereas a workspace describe how the entire program is laid out, a template describes how s ingle chart is laid out. Once you have a chart setup the way you want you can save the template by either "Menu Circle" ==> "Template" ==> "Save Template" or "Chart Right Click Menu" ==> "Templates" ==> "Save Template". This will bring up the save template file dialog, type in the name you want to use and select save.

To open a template select either "Menu Circle" ==> "Template" ==> "Open Template" or "Chart Right Click Menu" ==> "Templates" ==> "Open Template". Then select the name of the template you want to open and select open. The chart will keep the same Symbol and timespan but the studies and chart setup will reflect what was saved in the template.

Using Watch Lists

You can enter in a list of symbols here to quickly chart charts. You can quickly load an existing list be clicking a selection in the pull down box in the watchlist menu at the top.

Clear - "Right Click Menu" ==> "Clear" This will erase everything in the watchlist.

Add Symbol - "Right Click Menu" ==> "Add Symbol" Enter in each symbol and click add, then done when finished.

Link - "Right Click Menu" ==> "Link" This brings up a window of all chart windows. Click which windows you want to be linked to this watchlist.

Change a Chart Symbol - Click on a symbol in the watchlist and it will change all the linked charts to that symbol. You can use the enter key or the VCR buttons in the top menu to step through each symbol.

Drag Drop A Symbol - You can hold the left mouse button down over a watchlist row header

and drag the symbol onto a specific chart, when you release the left mouse button the chart will change to the symbol. Whenever you see the cross cursor it means you can drag this item onto another window.

Using Chat

Sending a Chat Message - Click the box below the chat message and type in your message and press enter. It will appear in the current chat channel.

Send a Private Chat Message - Type "/private name message" or click on the name in the right hand window of chat and then type in the private message and press enter

Change Chat Channel - Click the pull down list in the lower right to change to another chat channel if there is more than one.

Zoom In/Out - This will zoom the chart in and out.

Log - Select this to toggle between the chart using a log scale or not.

Refresh Chart - This will re request the same chart data from the data provider, this is useful to get rid of bad ticks that have since been corrected in the history of the data provider.

Extended Trading - This will show before and after hours trading in the stock.

Adding Studies

Clear All Studies - You can clear the chart of all predefined studies by selecting "Main Menu" ==> "Studies" ==> "Clear All Studies" or by "Chart Right Click" ==> "Clear All Studies".

You can also right click on the study title for a menu of options on the study like adding a study on a study i.e. you might want an exponential moving average on an on balance volume line.

You have the following choices:

Signals - If you choose one of the options under this menu you can show the buy and sell points of the current study as color bars, chart background color, arrows on the chart, or dots on the charts.

Line Properties - You can change the color, width, style, and transparency of the chart line under the mouse cursor when you opened the right click menu.

Delete Line - This will delete the chart line under the mouse cursor without deleting the whole study. For example, you could delete the middle line of the Bollinger bands without deleting the study.

Delete Study - This will delete the entire study under the mouse cursor from the chart, if it is in its own window panel the panel will be deleted also.

Building a Custom Toolbar

Welcome to Building a Custom Toolbar

The main menu of the program has the ability to create and save a custom toolbar.

Clearing the Toolbar

Click "Main Menu" ==> "Layouts" ==> "New Toolbar" to clear the toolbar of any buttons.

Adding Buttons to the Toolbar

Just right click on any of the mina menu buttons to choose "Add to Quick Access Toolbar".

This will add the button into the quick access toolbar at the top of the menu.

You can put up to size spacers in the menu by right clicking on the spacers under "Main Menu" ==> "Help" .

Deleting Buttons from the Toolbar

Right click on the quick access toolbar button and select "Remove from Quick Access Toolbar".

Choosing Where to place the toolbar

Show Quick Access Toolbar Above the Ribbon - Right click anywhere in the menu and choose this to put the toolbar above the Main Menu.

Show Quick Access Toolbar Below the Ribbon - Right click anywhere in the menu and choose this to put the toolbar below the Main Menu.

Saving the Toolbar

The toolbar will save with the workspace when you save the workspace but you can also save the toolbar by itself. Click "Main Menu" ==> "Layouts" ==> "Save Toolbar" to save the toolbar to a file.

This will bring up a save dialog. Give the file a name and click "Save".

Opening a Saved Toolbar

Click "Main Menu" ==> "Layouts" ==> "Open Toolbar" to load a saved toolbar into the program. This will open an open file dialog, click on the name of the toolbar, and click "Open". The saved toolbar will appear in the quick access toolbar.

Creating a Default Toolbar for new Team Members

Team administrators only - Make the quick access toolbar how you want it for all new team members. Then save the toolbar. Next Click on the "Site Management" Tab, then then "Files" tab, and finally click "Add Toolbar". Choose the file to upload to the server and the toolbar will be become the default toolbar for new members. See "Files Administration".

2. Click the insert Media icon on the text box toolbar.

Rating a Wiki Page

Welcome to Rating a Wiki Page

As a wiki user, you have the opportunity of rating the value of the page content. The wiki uses a thumbs-up and thumbs-down rating system which looks like this:

If you find a page that you particularly like or find valuable, you can give it a thumbs-up rating; or you can give it a thumbs-down if you do not find useful at all. Community Server tallies the percentage of positive and negative responses below the rating.

The rating will display as a red thumbs-down if 50% of respondents rate the page thumbs-down. The green thumbs-up displays as long as a user has rated it thumbs-up; however, you can see the general value of the page by the rating percentage. If the thumbs-up percentage is only 20 percent, for example, you will know that the majority of respondents have given the page a low rating.

These ratings are useful in alerting authors and users of the value of the information in the page. The author can see at a glance that the information in the page is helpful to users if rated highly, or incomplete, incorrect or generally without much value to most users if rated lowly. The author can then decide whether to modify the content or perhaps even remove the page entirely.

Other members of the community can also be alerted to the value of the page simply by seeing the graphic thumbs-up or thumbs-down icon and rated percentage.

Note: The ratings are tracked by user name so that a user's vote is recorded only once. You can change your vote at any time, but Community Server does not add an additional vote to its tally of total votes.

Procedure

1. Open the wiki page you want to rate. The current wiki page rating appears at the top of the post.

2. Scroll down to the bottom of the post (but above the comments) to the rating options.

3. Rate the post by clicking Yes or No. The new vote is immediately calculated and displays when you return to the wiki forums page.

Adding A Blog Post

Welcome to Adding a Blog Post

Each team has a blog that any of the users can post to unless blocked by the administrator. If you are very active and would like your own Blog, contact your team leader.

Blog Menu

You write to a blog using two methods.

From the Program - To Write to the team blog click "Main "Main Menu" ==> "Community" "Community" ==> "Write "Write a Blog".

From the Community Site - Click Blogs in the navigation menu, then click "Blogs "Blogs on this Site", then click the blog that matches the name of the team. Blog posts are displayed by date and show on the home page of the blog (depending on the date or tag filter defined). If you have administrative permission to write a post, you will see a link in the sidebar when you open a blog, as shown in the example below:

Procedure

1. Click "Write a new post" in the sidebar. The following page opens in the Control Panel.

2. Specify the blog settings on each tab.

Write

Allows you to add the title and body text of your blog.

Title - Your page title as it displays in your community.

Text body - Enter your page text.

Tags - Tags used for your page. You can select tags from existing Web sites by clicking Select Tags.

Comments & Feedback

Allows you to enable or disable reader comment and feedback properties.

Can readers comment on posts - Click Yes to allow readers to comment on the page.

Review comments prior to publishing - Select the publishing option. You can allow comments to be published immediately or require approval.

Can readers rate posts - Click Yes if you want Community Server to provide users with star rating options on the page.

Send email notifications - Specify whether or not to receive an email when a user comments or offers feedback on the page.

Multi-user blogging - Click Yes if you want all authors of the page to receive email notifications of user feedback and comments.

Display references (trackbacks) - Click Yes if you want to display trackbacks when users visit your page.

Publication Settings

Allows you to specify post publication properties.

Use post summaries in RSS - Click Yes if you want only the page summary published to other sites when sharing content via RSS feeds.

Post Summary - Page summary text that will be displayed on other sites when sharing the content via RSS feeds.

When should this post be published - Specify the page publishing date. The setting defaults to the page creation time and publishes immediately when you click Publish.

Advanced Options

Allows you to specify the post priority, such as whether it should be displayed on the site home page or blog home page.

Display this post on my site's homepage - Click Yes to display the page on the Web site's homepage.

Display this post on my blog's homepage - Click Yes to display the page on the blog's homepage.

Post URL - Specify any key words for the page's URL. If left blank, Community Server uses the page title as key words.

Post this entry on my other blogs (cross-posting) - Click Yes to include the page on any other pages that enable cross-posting.

Preview

Allows you to preview the textual content of your page before you save or publish it. See "Previewing Content Changes" for more information.

3. Specify your publishing option.

Save and Continue Writing - Saves the content and settings but remains in the page work area so you can continue working on it.

Save, but don't publish - Saves the content and allows you to work on something else, but does not publish the page.

Publish - Saves the page settings and content and immediately publishes the page.

4. Click Save.

Tags

You can also browse blog posts by tags. The Tags panel contains the list of tags assigned to the blogs. The more common the tag, or the tags used with the most blog posts, display with the largest font. For example, the Market tag is the most used in the blog posts, as shown in the tag cloud below.

When you click on an item in the tag cloud, Community Server opens a page with the list of all blogs that use the tag. For example, if you click Market in the tag cloud, A page is opened that lists all blogs that use the Market tag.

The breadcrumbs just below the Navigation Panel remind you that you are looking at the posts that use the market tag.

Blogs Groups panel

The Blogs Groups panel contains additional links that are worth noting.

When you click RSS Syndication, Community Server opens the RSS feed page, where you can subscribe to the blog page as an RSS feed. When you subscribe to a feed, Community Server adds it to the Common Feed List. Updated information from the feed is automatically downloaded to your computer so you can view it in Internet Explorer and other programs.

Opml publishes the list of blogs in the Opml format. See "Opml" for more information.

Welcome to Subscribing to Forum Threads

When you enable the thread subscription functionality, an email notification will be sent to you when a user replies to a specific thread. This feature is useful if you want to follow the discussion about a specific topic.

Procedure

Open the forum thread to which you want to subscribe.

Discussion Format - click the "Email me" when someone replies link.

When the thread subscription feature is enabled, the link changes to Stop emailing replies to me.

Procedure

Open the forum thread to which you want to subscribe.

Discussion Format - click the Email me when someone replies link.

When the thread subscription feature is enabled, the link changes to Stop emailing replies to me.

Welcome to Subscribing to a Forum

When you subscribe to a forum, a notification will be sent to you of any activity in that forum.

Procedure

1. Navigate to the Forums main page or to a forum.

2. Click on the "Forum Subscriptions" link in the Shortcuts section in the sidebar.

The Forum Subscriptions page displays with the list of forums.

Yes and No in the Subscribe list indicates whether you subscribe to a forum.

3. Click Yes or No to subscribe or unsubscribe. This will reset the subscribe value.

Using the Forum Reply Options

Welcome to Using the Forum Reply Options

Forum replies can take two forms: the regular reply function and the quick reply.

The differences in the reply methods are the information and editing options that are included on the reply page. For example, when you click Reply, the reply page looks like this:

The tabs at the top of the page provide you with editing options such as adding a file to your reply and previewing your reply before posting it.

The Quote function allows you to include the text of the thread to which you are replying in the Description text area. It can be useful if you want to address something very particular in the post or previous thread. If you click Quote, a text editor page displays so you can use quote markup tags. If you click Quote, a text editor page displays so you can use quote markup tags.

If you wanted to use part of the quote, your text might look like this:

[quote user="Burt Barnes"]...notifications on comments/feedback.[/quote]

You can also add tags to your reply and enable the email reply option.

The quick reply function, on the other hand, streamlines the reply options. The quick reply page looks like this:

The quick reply modal window is smaller and quicker to load than a full Community Server page like you see with the reply page.
